Below is information on grants that we have found as currently available for Canadian small businesses.
Saskatchewan Grants
This is a permanent subsidy that is open year-round for business owners to train new or existing employees in any program that will create more opportunities for unemployed and underemployed workers and develop skills to benefit both the employer and the employee.
This program reimburses 66% (2/3) of the costs associated with training up to $10,000 per employee per year up to a maximum of $100,000 per employee. The employer contributes the other 1/3 of eligible training expenses including employee wages. Eligible employers includes Corporations, Sole Proprietors, Partnerships, and Non-Profits. Employees must be receiving T4 Income (Salary or Hourly income) and receiving an official paystub with deductions to be considered eligible. Eligible employees includes that are Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents. This includes anyone that owns up to and including 39% of the business. There is no set minimum number of hours or length of time at company for employees to qualify as long as they have a paystub at the time of the application, and receive paystubs regularly.Find out more about this program here.

Pathways for Entrepreneurship ProgramGDI’s Pathways program provides unique supports to Métis entrepreneurs who are looking to create, maintain, or expand a business. The overall goal is to increase Métis entrepreneurship and economic growth in Saskatchewan. Metis business owners can recieve 100% funding up to $10,000 per client per year for entrepreneurial training, industry training, professional services or consulting support.Find out more about this program here.
Wage Subsidy ProgramThis program is designed to help Métis individuals enter or return to the workforce by participating in a practical work experience. It provides employers with a wage subsidy to hire Métis individuals new or re-entering the workforce for full time employment for a maximum of 26 weeks.Find out more about this program here.

Alberta Grants
Canada-Alberta Job Grant (CAJG)
The Canada-Alberta Job Grant (CAJG) is an employer-driven program that helps employers invest in training for current and future employees. The goal of the CAJG is to increase the participation of Albertans in the labor force by helping them develop the skills they need to find and keep a job. The CAJG is also an opportunity for employers to invest in training that is better aligned with job opportunities.
This program reimburses 66% (2/3) of the costs associated with training an existing employee up to $10,000 per employee per year up to a maximum of $300,000 per year. When hiring and training an unemployed Albertan, up to 100% of training costs can be covered up to a maximum of $15,000 per employee per year.
Eligible employers includes Corporations, Sole Proprietors, Partnerships, First Nations and Metis Settlements and Non-Profits. Employees must be receiving T4 Income (Salary or Hourly income) and receiving an official paystub with deductions to be considered eligible. Eligible employees must be Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents. This includes business owners that have 4 or fewer employees. There is no set minimum number of hours or length of time at company for employees to qualify as long as they have a paystub at the time of the application, and receive paystubs regularly.Find out more information about this program here.
Manitoba Grants
Canada-Manitoba Job Grant
This program is only open for a couple weeks every Fall & Spring.
This program provides funding to employers to help cover training costs of new and existing employees to meet business needs, support the development of a highly skilled workforce in Manitoba.
This program reimburses 75% of the costs associated with training an existing employee up to $10,000 per employee per year up to a maximum of $100,000 per year. When hiring and training an unemployed Albertan, up to 100% of training costs can be covered up to a maximum of $15,000 per employee per year. Employers must have a job available for the trainee upon successful completion of the training.
Eligible employers includes Corporations, Sole Proprietors, Partnerships, First Nations, Municipal Governments and Non-Profits. Employees must be receiving T4 Income (Salary or Hourly income) and receiving an official paystub with deductions to be considered eligible. Eligible employees must be Canadian Citizens, Permanent Residents, refugees, provincial nominees, and immigrants that are not obligated to leave and are eligible to work in Canada. There is no set minimum number of hours or length of time at company for employees to qualify as long as they have a paystub at the time of the application, and receive paystubs regularly.

Retrain Manitoba will reimburse Manitoba businesses for the investments they have made in their employees’ professional progress through a variety of interdisciplinary training programs offered by accredited third-party institutions with reimbursements of up to $2,500 per employee, to a cumulative maximum of $75,000
