Saskatchewan

  • Saskatchewan Re-Skill Training

    The Re-Skill Saskatchewan Training Subsidy (RSTS) program is a new, temporary program that provides businesses with the financial support to train employees as the province emerges from the pandemic and economic recovery. This program supports eligible Saskatchewan employers to access financial support for employer-driven, short-term training programs for their employees.
    Funding to support training can help employers evolve from the impacts of the pandemic into economic recovery.
    ● Financial support can ensure employers have access to training that supports their business recovery efforts and assists them in meeting the challenges brought on by COVID-19;● Employers select the employee(s) and the training program;● 100% reimbursement is provided to eligible employers for approved training costs; and● Payment is made to approved employers that enter into a training agreement with the government upon completion of final reporting, including verification of actual expenditures.
    Employers can make multiple applications to a maximum of $5,000 for the duration of the program. The minimum amount per application is $1,000 per training program. Employers may work with training providers to combine courses into customized programs that meet their training needs.

    This is a permanent subsidy that is open year-round for business owners to train new or existing employees in any program that will create more opportunities for unemployed and underemployed workers and develop skills to benefit both the employer and the employee.
    It covers two-thirds of the costs associated with training (the employer contributes one-third) up to $10,000 per employee.
    Due to high program demand, applications are being prioritized and processed approximately two weeks prior to the start date of the training.

    The Canada-Manitoba Job Grant provides funding to employers to help cover training costs of new andexisting employees to meet business needs, and help Manitobans gain the skills they need to fill available jobs
    Small companies with 100 or fewer employees can apply for up to 75% of eligible training costs. Employers can apply for up to a maximum amount of $10,000 per training participant.
    Applicants may apply beginning August 30, 2021 for training that takes place between April 1 2022 & March 15 2023

    Reimbursement under the Retrain Manitoba initiative covers an expansive range of in-person and online skill development courses offered by accredited third-party organizations based in Manitoba and beyond. These are industry-leading educational institutions specializing in a diversity of disciplines, from business to retail to trades and transportation.
    Retrain Manitoba will reimburse active Manitoba businesses for up to $2,500 in costs associated with the continued education and professional development of each of their employees.
    Retrain Manitoba is not a cash advance program and only reimburses education and training investments that have been paid for previously.
    Retrain Manitoba will distribute grants promoting the upskilling of Manitoba’s workforce until March 31, 2022, or until the program budget has been expended. Reimbursements will be distributed within one week of approval by direct deposit.
    Businesses already receiving the Canada-Manitoba Job Grant or other provincial funding for training are not eligible to apply for the same training.

Alberta

    The Canada-Alberta Job Grant (CAJG) is an employer-driven program that helps employers invest intraining for current and future employees. The goal of the CAJG is to increase the participation of Albertans in the labour force by helping them develop the skills they need to find and keep a job. The CAJG is also an opportunity for employers to invest in training that is better aligned with job opportunities.
    Employers are required to contribute a minimum of one-third of the total training costs for existing employees. Government contributes two-thirds of the cost to a maximum of $10,000 per trainee per fiscal year. If hiring and training an unemployed Albertan, up to 100% of training costs could be covered, up to $15,000 per trainee. Individual employers will have a cap of $300,000 for the amount of grant funding they can receive per fiscal year.
